He married Millie Mary Vance in Tazewell Or Russ, Va, about 1815. Millie was born in Russell, Va 1796. She was the daughter of Abner Vance and Susanna Howard. Millie died after 1870 in Logan, W Va. 1891860 Logan County Virginia Census Dwelling #259 wife Millie is living with son Evan Brown - James Brown was deceased by 1860. Sigfus Olfason Olafson in his notes states that James Brown was a veteram of the War of 1812 Reference Book of Wyoming County History by Mary Keller Bowman page 399. James Brown married Millie Vance, daughter of Abner Vance, Sr., and settled on Big Huff before 1820. Their children were: 1. James Harold Brown married Nancy Toler daughter of David Toler. 2. Petterson "Patten" Brown married Rebecca Roach, daughter of Reuben Roach. 3. Elisha Brown married Cosbi Bailey, daughter of Thomas Bailey: Children were Aurelia, Elsworth, Andy C., Noah, Elisha Jr., Mathers, Dennie, and Joda. 4. John "Old Jack" Brown married Nancy Toler daughter of Richard Toler. 5. Esseau Brown married Margaret Vance; children were Minta, Perry, Mary, Michael, Grace, and Anthony. 6. Isaac Brown married Isabel "Ibbie" Brown. "I am sure that Mrs Bowman was incorrect in here statement for #1 James Harold Brown and #4 John "Old Jack" Brown." Jim Burgess James Brown married Millie Vance, daughter of Abner Vance Senior; and settled on Big Huff near division line between Wyoming and Logan, probably before 1820. Abner Vance, Sr., was a pioneer of Logan County territory. Along with James Brown and Abner Vance, Sr.; we should mention William Dingess, Thomas Caine, Peter Huff, Thomas and Joseph Gilbert as scouts whose field of operation invluded this territory. Of them, Caine, Huff and Filberts lost their lives in active service in this area. 1859. Clarissa was born in Virginia 1841.

Virginia, August 30, 1855. Eli was born in Logan, Virginia 1832. He was the son of Abner Jrr Vance and
