He married Caroline Brady in Fauquier, Va, September 8, 1834. Caroline was born in Fauquier, Virginia 1812. She was the daughter of Richard Bradley and Frances Campbell. Caroline died after 1880 in Greenbrier, West Virginia. Her body was interred in Calvary Methodis, Richlands, Greenbrier, West Virginia. Moses was a farmer near the border of Fauquier and Prince William Cos. He is not mentioned in his father's estate paper, but is lised in the family Bible with his birth and death dates. He died in Frederick Co. on 5 Apr 1858 of "spasms" (according to Prince William Co. death records. His body was interred in Calvary Methodis, Richlands, Greenbrier, West Virginia. Notes from Michael Burgess page 276 6a Erasmus Helm "Ras" Born 22 Jun 1835 in Fauquier Co., Va. Listed as "blind and deaf" on the 1850 census. Living with his mother in the 1860-70 censused, and in 1880-1900 in Greenberier Co., WV; in 1910 he appears with Daniel Kirwen (listed as his uncle) in Loudoun Co., Va. Ras was a farmhand in Virginia and West Virginia. He died unmarried on 212 Aug 1919 at Sydenstricker, Greenbrier Co., WV and is buried there in the Calvary Cemetary.

Her body was interred in Orlean Cemetary, Orlean, Fauquier, Virginia. She married John R Garrett in Fauquier-p Wm, Virginia, about 1858. John was born in Fauquier, Virginia April 2, 1837. child 85 iii. John R Burgess was born in Fauquier, Va 1839. John died June 30, 1862 in Battle E Richmon, Malvern Hill, Virginia. His body was interred July 5, 1862 in Battle E Richmon, Fraziers Farm, Virginia. War Registry Record John R Burgess was shot in the head on Malvern Hill, Frazier Farm at the Battle East of Richmond. Northern Virginia's Own, William M Glasgow, Jr. 17th Virginia Infantry Regiment _ Confederate States of America. p. 370 BURGESS, John R. John R. Born about 1839 in Fauquier Co., VA. Living with his mother in 1860 as a farmer. John Burgess enlisted on 16 Apr 1861 at Haymarket, Va (age 21), in the 17th Virginia Infantry, Confederate Army. He was shot in the head at the Battle of Malvern Hill, near Richmond, at Frazier's Farm, on 30 Jun 1862, and was supposedly buried on his mother;s farm.

War Registry Edward W Burgess had his leg amputated at the Battle of Seven Pines near Richmond Virginia Northern Virginia's Own, William M Glasgow Junior 17th Virginia Infantry Regiment Confederate States of America. Edward Burgess enlisted on 26 Apr 1861 at Haymarket,VA (age 21) in the 17th Virginia Infantry, Conferate Army. He waaswounded at the Battledof Seven Pines, east of Richmond, Va, on 1 Jun 1862, and died on 14 Jun 1862 at Richmond Hospital #14, after his leg was amputated due to gangrene. He was supposedly buried on his mother's farm.

Mollie Burgess was the daughter of Moses Burgess and Caroline Brady. Mollie was born about 1845 in Fauquier County, Virginia. It is believed that Mollie was raped by a man named Smith during the Civil War. Steven Vince Burgess was the child who was born as a result. After the birth of Steven Mollie came to Greenbrier County, West Virginia to get away from the embarrassment of the situation. Moses Burgess had died by this time, but his wife Caroline Brady Burgess came with Mollie. Erasmus Helm Burgess was the oldest son and was the first to come to Greenbrier County, West Virginia. Both Erasmus Helm Burgess and Mollie Burgess were buried near Steven Vince Burgess and Sarah Jane "Sallie" Crookshanks Burgess. Steven Vince Burgess was born 28 Feb 1862 at Warrenton, Fauquier, Virginia, Some in Fauquier County, Virginia believe that there may not have been a rape, just an embarrassing situation for a wealthy Smith family. What ever happened the Mr. Smith did not marry Mollie Burgess from the poor tenant family of Moses Burgess and Caroline Brady. Notes of Michael Burgess page 279 62. Mary Catherine (II) "Mollie" (daughter of Moses (III). Born about 1843 in VA. According to a family story, she was attacked and raped by a field hand name Smith in the summer of 1861, during the unrest caused by the Civil War and had a son she raised herself. Listed in the 1870 census with her mother and in 1880 with her sister, Frances; has not been found in 1900, but appears in the 1910 census living with her son. Mollie died unmarried at Richlands, WV, on 8 May 1910, and is buried in the Calvery Cemetery. Her body was interred in Cedar Grove Cem, Bealeton, Fauquier, Virginia. She married Alphius William "Pump" Bray in Fauquier, Va, March 24, 1876. Alphius was born in Fauquier, Virginia October 1838. Alphius died before January 31, 1911 in Fauquier, Virginia. His body was interred in Cedar Grove Ceme, Bealeton, Fauquier, Virginia. child 92 x. Georgeanna (Twin) Burgess was born in Prince William, Va 1849. Georgeanna died February 25, 1923 in Fauquier, Virginia. Her body was interred in Newbaltimorebapc, New Baltimore, Fauquier, Virginia. She married John Burgess Lewis in Fauquier, Va, March 18, 1884. John was born in Fauquier, Virginia 1836. Born Nov. 1847 in Prince William Co., VA. Married as his second wife her cousin (?), John Burgess Lewis, on 18 Mar 1884 in Fauquier Co., (he was born about 1836, son of William Buckner Lewis and Jane Lee and brother of Susan Lewis, who married her cousin, James Monroe Burgess, and had one child: Ida Verona (born 1890: died unmarried, and is buried next to Zaccheus and Edwin Burgess in an unmarked grave in the Warrenton Cemetery). Listed with her mother in the 1870 census; lliving in 1910 with her cousin, Addison F. Burgess, working as his housekeeper(her daughter is listed with her). She died there on 25 Feb 1923 and is buried in an unmarrked grave in the New Baltimore Baptist Church Cemetary.

child 93 xi. Alice B Burgess was born in Prince William, Virginia November 1849. Alice died after 1923 in Of Washington, D C. She married Edwin Fletcher in Fauquier, Va, July 25, 1876. She married Levelet Luckett in Fauquier, Virginia, about 1877. Levelet was born in Prince William, Virginia before 1880. Levelet died before 1880.
