73. Francis⁸ Browning (Enos⁷, John⁶, Francis Senior⁵, John Jrr⁴, John³, William², John Captain¹) was born in , Virginia December 24, 1780. Francis died December 29, 1858 in Of Oilville, Logan, Virginia, at 78 years of age.

He married Tabitha Vance in Washington ??, Virginia, about 1797. Tabitha was born in Nc 1782. She was the daughter of Abner Vance and Susanna Howard. Tabitha died after 1860 in Logan, Va. History of Logan County, Virginia by Henry Clay Ragland 1896 Rewritten by George T Swain in 1927. page 69 Francis Browning, who married a daughter of Abner Vance of Tazewell County, settled at the mouth of Cow Creek, and was the father of the sons and four daughters. His sons were William E. (known as Buck), who married a Miss Wallace, Jesse, who married a Miss Webb, and Jackson who went West while a young man. The marriage record indicates that his father was Francis Browning. From the 1830 census we see that Francis Browning had two sons who were born 1820-1825. Certainly it is possible that one of these sons was Allen Browning. According to the deeds I haved abstracted in Logan County, Francis Browning lived on or near Pine Creek and Island Creek, thus making him what I call a Cow Creek Browning which is 40 miles from Buffalo Creek. 1850 Logan County, Virginia Census (Logan County Genealogical Society) BROWNING #484 Francis 1781 b NC (s Enos & Jennie Trim Browning) Tabitha 1782 (dau Abner & Susannah Howard Vance) Mary E 1806 (Single probably never married) Susannah Vance 1767 (mother in law, dau Abraham & Jane Howard widow Abner Vance) BROWNING #313 William 1813 (s Francis & Tabitha Vance Browning) Rebecca 1815 Toler 1850 Census not much help in proving Allen's relationship. Family Group Sheets submitted to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints by several relatives show that Jackson Browning was the only son born in the 1820-1825 time period. In comparing the 1830 census to the family group sheet we see that the Francis Listed in the 1830 censuss had 2 sons and one daughter born between 1820 and 1825. Jackson was one of the sons. Perhaps Allen Browning was the other. Francis Browning would have been about 44 in 1825 and Tabitha would have been 44 still of child bearing age. It is interesting to note that only one Francis Browning is listed in the 1830 Logan County Census. Francis Browning and Tabitha Vance are listed in the 1850 census. The Francis Browning and Jane Spratt are too young. This Francis is listed as the son of Edmund Browning and Francis Hall.) Where is Allen Browning in the 1850 Census? I do not see in the 1850 Census of Logan County, Virginia an Allen or anything close to Allen Browning. Conclusion: From my research of other Browning Families in the 1830 census only Francis (whom we have discussed), Reese, Reuben, Simeon, had sons who were born in the 1820-1825 time period. From the following evaluation I see no reason that Allen was not the son of Francis and Tabitha, but not much good as far as proof is concerned. Reese son was Thomas Edmund Browning born 1823 married Elizabeth Vance. Reubin had one son born in this time period. I personally believe that this person was the Oliver Browning who married Amanda White. Certainly the relationship would have been closer than Allen. In my research I have found no reason to believe Allen is related here. After all Oliver lived closed in Logan County than did Allen. Oliver was a Buffalo Creek Browning and I do not know where Allen lived. Simeon had two sons listed in the census. I believe that these two sons were #25 Simeon Browning who Mary Ann Browning and William Browning #28 who married Elizabeth Browning. Certainly these were Buffalo Creek Browning families. Dear Vernia, I hope that this helps in some small way. I have not seen in my twenty reason research mention of Allen Browning in Logan County before 1850. 111 v. Rebecca Browning was born in Washington, Virginia 1812. Rebecca died 1878 in Lincoln, West Virginia. Her body was interred in Polly Vance Ceme, Twelve Polecreek, Lincoln, West Virginia.

112 vi. William Browning was born in , North Carolina 1813.

113 vii. Frankey Browning was born in , Va 1815.

114 viii. Nancy Ann Browning was born in , Va 1816.

115 ix. Margaret Browning was born in , Virginia 1818.

116 x. Jackson Browning was born in Russel, Virginia about 1822. Jackson died in Died Young.
