First Generation

1. Adrian1 Anglin was born in , Of France about 1693. Adrian died April 25, 1777 in Buckingham, Virginia.

He married twice. He married Elizabeth in Of Louisa, Virginia, about 1722. He married Mary Thornhill in Of Louisa, Virginia, about 1740. ANGLIN, Philip. R.225 9 Apr 1834. Henry County, Virginia. Philip (X) Anglin of said county, aged 91, declares that in the early part of the the war, the Tories having committed many depredations, Capt. Bush raised a colunteer company in chich he served three weeks. In 1779 he marched from the place he now resides in Henry County, which was a part of Pittsylvania County, under Capt. James Shelton againts the Tories who become very troublesome. He served three months and was stationed a part of the time at Flower Gap in the Alleghany Mountains which was a place of rendezvous and shelter for the Tories. He was later called out by Col Abraham Penn, the Lieutenant of the County, and marched against the Tories into North Carolina on the Yadkin River where it waqs understood the Tories had collected in Great Force. A few days before the Americans arrival the Tories dispersed. He was stationed at several places in the Tory Settlements. He expected to prove this service by Maj Peter Hairston of Stokes County, North Carolina and set his son Robert Anglin to Hairstons house but he found him on his death bed. He served two small tours guarding prisoners taken at King's mountain and at Cowpens. He was employed about 12 or 14 days in both instances. He was born 20 Dec 1742 in Albemarle County according to a paper used by his father as a family register. He moved from Albemarle County when about 20 years of age and lived in Amherst and Bedford counties until about 30 when he removed to his present place of residence. 30 Nov 1833. Henry County, Virginia. Stephen King declares that Phillip Anglin served a military tour of three months under Capt James Shelton and was with him against the Tories stationed at Flower Gap. They were discharged at that place. 14 Feb 1834 Patrick County, Virginia William Carter of said county declares that about 18 months since he was at the house of Major Peter Hairston in Stokes County, North Carolina and heard a conversation between the son of Phillip Anglin and Hairston. Hairston said that Philip Anglin was a Revolutionary Soldier. The Adrian Anglin with 200 acres grant Sep 25, 1746 on both side of Slate River and Rocky Creek is in Buckingham Coutny, Virginia. Rocky Creek may also be little Rocky creek which is in Louisa County, Virginia. The National Genealogical Quarterly stated one must go to Goochland County and early Buckingham county records In Will Book I page 33 Albemarle County Virginia Aug 15, 1751 on Adrian Anglin was witness to Wm Allen's will May be the same above man mentioned in Volume 13. Adrian Anglin's name is spelled differently in several records. Adrian Anglin Senior's will in Patrick County, Virginia - Will Book I page 117 wife Elizabeth, Jno John, Philly, Elisha, Elizabeth, Polly Lackey, Matilda Sharp, Harman ?, Jane and Lydia. (Similar name is John Anglin of Carter County, Kentucky. Is Adrian the same man who is son of John and Elizabeth of Pittsylvania County and his first wife Sarah died after 1806 and he remarried Elizabeth ____________. Sons name Elisha named for Elisha. William in deed the name Lydia of John's family of Pittsylvania.
