William R. Gibson was listed in the "History of Wirt Co" Manuscript by Mitchell, as a
Confederate South Army Soldier. He also list William R. Gibson as being born in 1827 in Highland Co., Va, burried in Wirt Co. W.Va

He was married to Elizabeth Ann Kirby on 27 Aug 1847 in Pocahontus Co., Va.^{(6) (7)(8)} Grandfather, also named William Henry Gibson, was also born in Highland Co., Virginia, on September 8, 1827: he died on April 28, 1899. His first marriage was to Elizabeth Kirby who lived on a adjoining plantation. They became very close, fell in love, and decided to elope because they knew their parents would not let them get married. With the help of the srvants of both families they were given the best saddle horses, left, and roame around in the mountains until they foud a minister. They were married that night. At first they were afraid to go back home, but later they returned and all was forgiven. About a year later a baby was born to them, both mother and baby died. Elizabeth Ann Kirby was born in 1828 in Pocahontus Co., Va. ⁽⁹⁾ She died on 25 Dec 1849.⁽⁹⁾

He was married to Elizabeth M. Ruble on 14 Sep 1851 in Wirt Co., W V. Elizabeth M. Ruble was born on 18 Apr 1833 in Va. ⁽¹⁰⁾ Grave stone puts date of Birth at 13 Apr 1833 She died on 22 Feb 1916 in Wirt Co., W V. She was buried in Gibson Farm, Chestnut Run, Burning Springs, Wv.
